The 2nd National Congress of Plant Biology Held in Shenzhen

From November 20 to 23, 2020, Southern University of Science and Technology and Chinese Society for Plant Biology jointly held the “The 2nd National Congress of Plant Biology”. More than 30 domestic well-known experts and more than 200 scholars in the field of plant photobiology attended the conference and exchanged in-depth views on some frontier scientific issues, such as photoreceptors, light signal transduction and light’s integration with other signals, and their latest progress. 

Centering on the theme of “photoreceptors, light signal transduction, light and other signals”, experts gave academic reports in combination with their own research fields. At the conference, the Outstanding Contribution Award, Excellent Report Award and Excellent Wall Newspaper Award in the field of plant photobiology were presented, and it was announced that the next congress would be hosted by Huazhong Agricultural University. This conference won unanimous praise from guests and participants. It is held to build a platform for equal exchange and active cooperation for the participants and provide opportunities for the cultivation and development of reserve talents in the field of plant photobiology. It is viewed as a representative and inheriting academic exchange activity in the field of plant biology in China.

2020 National Congress of Plant Biology Held Successfully

From October 11 to 14, 2020, “2020 National Congress of Plant Biology” had been successfully held in Shenzhen. More than 1,000 researchers from more than 200 universities and scientific research institutions, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, attended the conference on the spot or online. 

At the conference, through the keynote speeches, special reports, young scholars’ forum and other links, experts gave academic reports on plant genomics, epigenetics, photosynthesis, plant metabolism, plant nutrition and environment, plant reproductive development, plant cell signaling, plant abiotic stress, plant biological interaction and other subjects in combination with their own scientific research fields, and discuss major issues faced in the field of agriculture and environmental protection with participants. A total of 74 academic reports were exchanged and 245 abstracts and wall papers were received. 

At the conference, the 2020 CSPB Lifetime Contribution Award, Outstanding Accomplishment Award, Outstanding Young Scientist Award and Wei Zhiming Youth Innovation Award were also presented. Specifically, Academician Kuang Tingyun and Academician Xu Zhihong won the Lifetime Contribution Awards; Academician Zhong Kang and Academician Han Bin won the Outstanding Achievement Award, Professor Huang Xuehui and Professor Xu Tongda won the Outstanding Young Scientist Award; Professor Du Jiamu, Professor Li Jigang, Researcher Ren Guodong Professor Wu Jun and Researcher Xin Xiufang won the Wei Zhiming Youth Innovation Award. 

The impact factor of Molecular Plant, a SCI Journal, broke through 12 points, ranking second in the journals of plant science research.

According to the 2019 “Journal Citation Reports” published on June 29, 2020, the impact factor of Molecular Plant, a SCI journal jointly published by the CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Science and Chinese Society for Plant Biology, broke through 12 points, rising to 12.084. Its impact factor point for the latest 5 years was 12.744, ranking second in the research journals of plant science. Actually, it has ranked first in the Asian journals of the same field for 9 consecutive years and surpassed the top journal of plant science The Plant Cell sponsored by the American Society of Plant Biologists for 4 consecutive years, indicating that Molecular Plant, a scientific and technological journal sponsored by China with independent intellectual property rights, has developed into one of the world's first-class scientific and technological journals as well as one of the top journals in plant science. In addition, its sister journal, Plant Communications, was officially published in January 2020. 

The 3rd National Congress of Plant Flowering, Senescence and Postharvest Biology Held Successfully

On the morning of November 5, 2019, the 3rd National Congress of Plant Flowering, Senescence and Postharvest Biology opened ceremoniously in the Yuanzheng Qizhen Hotel, Zijingang Campus, Zhejiang University. Nearly 300 representatives from 89 units across the country attended the conference. 

Professor Donald Grierson, a Fellow of the Royal Society, and Professor James Giovannoni, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, were invited to give a special report. In the next two days, 40 domestic well-known scientists also had given academic reports on three topics: plant flowering, senescence and postharvest biology, and carried out exchanges and discussions, which fully reflected and displayed the latest research achievements in China’s botany-related fields.

The National Academic Annual Conference and the 12th Congress of Chinese Society for Plant Biology Opened Ceremoniously

On the morning of July 6, 2019, the National Academic Annual Conference and the 12th Congress of Chinese Society for Plant Biology opened ceremoniously in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. More than 1,200 member representatives from provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and other representatives from branches of the society, scientific research institutes and enterprises attended the conference. 

The 12th Congress of Chinese Society for Plant Biology considered and approved by voting the work report, financial report, articles of association and membership fee standard at the 11th Council of Chinese Society for Plant Biology, and elected the 12th Council and the first Board of Supervisors. In addition, in order to honor outstanding scientific and technological workers in the field of plant biology, encourage Chinese scientific and technological workers in plant biology to continuously innovate and contribute to the construction of an innovative country, the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Society, the Outstanding Young Scientist Award of the Society and the Wei Zhiming Young Innovation Award were presented at the conference. Cao Xiaofeng, an academician of Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Lin Hongxuan, an academician of the CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Science won the outstanding achievement award. 

The Congress is a heavyweight conference held every five years by the Chinese Society for Plant Biology, which is not only a high-end and cutting-edge conference in the domestic field, but also a platform to demonstrate the latest achievements of plant biology researchers in China and provide full exchange and collision of academic ideas. It was themed by plant physiology and green development. In the next two days, it will carry out high-level academic exchanges and display the latest achievements, focusing on plant hormones and developmental biology, plant genomics and new molecular breeding technology, plant biological interaction, plant abiotic stress, plant nutrition and environment, plant biotechnology, plant metabolic biology and nutritional health, plant cell and signaling, photosynthesis and Photobiology, etc. More than 100 well-known experts and scholars in the field of plant biology at home and abroad, including many academicians, will exchange in-depth views and discuss with more than 1,000 participants.

The 6th Academic Exchange Symposium of Female Scientists Chapter of Chinese Society for Plant Biology Held Successfully

From May 20 to May 23, 2019, the 6th Academic Exchange Symposium of Female Scientists Chapter of Chinese Society for Plant Biology was successfully held in Haiquan Bay Crowne Plaza Hotel, Qingdao, Shandong Province. More than 200 female scientists and scientific and technological workers from all over the country attended the conference. 

The content of this conference falls into two parts: popular science report and academic report. Kuang Tingyun (an academician of Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Zhao Jindong (an academician from Peking University), Chen Zijiang, (a professor of Shandong University), Liao Hong, (a professor of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University), and Gu Hongya, (a professor of Peking University) were invited to give popular science reports on the subjects of interdisciplinary and source innovation of photosynthesis, nitrogen fixation of blue-green algae, women's health care, innovation of tea industry, and the role of transgenic in plant evolution. 23 outstanding young and middle-aged female scientists shared the latest scientific research progress with participants centering around many subjects, such as plant growth and development regulation, plant germplasm resources innovation, plant genomics and plant biotechnology, which fully manifested the academic level and spiritual style of China’s female science and technology workers in the field of plant physiology and molecular biology.    

International Symposium on Synthetic Biology in Photosynthesis Research Held Successfully

From August 7 to 10, 2018, the International Symposium on Synthetic Biology in Photosynthesis Research was successfully held at the Meilan Lake Conference Center in Shanghai. More than 130 representatives from more than 50 institutions of higher learning, research institutes and enterprises in 8 countries, including China, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany and Israel, attended the conference. This conference focused on four special subjects: (1) main progress of the current research on the operation of photosynthetic system; (2) main progress of the current major projects of synthetic biology in photosynthesis, such as the international C4 rice project, C3 photosynthesis improvement project and artificial photosynthetic structure; (3) methods for studies on synthetic biology in photosynthesis, including metabolic flux analysis, visualization of living cells of metabolite, plant photosynthesis system model and artificial evolutionary pathways; (4) discussion on new opportunities for the development of photosynthesis research, new technologies to be developed and main strategies to promote the research of synthetic biology in photosynthesis to form a strategy proposal for the future development of synthetic biology in photosynthesis. The conference provided an important impetus for the large-scale development of synthetic biology in photosynthesis in China as well as an important exchange platform for international research on synthetic biology in photosynthesis.   

The 1st Asia-Oceania International Congress on Photosynthesis Held Successfully

From August 19 to 23, 2018, more than 300 researchers from Asia and Oceania gathered at the Friendship Palace of Friendship Hotel surrounded by green trees to participate in the 1st Asia-Oceania International Congress on Photosynthesis. 

This Congress is themed by “photosynthesis for sustainable development”. Centering on this theme, experts from all over the world gave 49 academic reports in varied splendor. Of them, 8 professors or researchers were invited to make special presentations, including Professor Toshiharu Shikanai from Kyoto University, Japan, Professor Jun Minagawa from Hokkaido University, Japan, Professor Shen Jianren from Okayama University, Japan and the Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Masato Nakai from Osaka University, Japan, Professor Inhwan Hwang from Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea, Researcher Liu Zhenfeng from the Institute of Biophysics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Han Min Woo from Sungkyunkwan University, Korea, Professor Wim Vermaas from Arizona State University, US, Researcher Chi Wei from the Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Chen Min from the University of Sydney, Australia.
